Grammy Award winner Sarah McLachlan
has moved millions with her emotionally charged vocals, but
who has moved Sarah McLachlan? The “Influences”
series escorts you beyond the velvet rope to confirm a few
artists you may have guessed – singer-songwriter Jane
Siberry (“The Valley”) – and some you might
never have imagined – Pakistani qawwali vocalist Nusrat
Fateh Ali Khan (“Mustt Mustt”), about whose music
she says, “You don’t even know what the words
are, but you feel the spirituality and passion in every note.”
Peter Gabriel earns two spots on McLachlan’s list, one
with Genesis (“The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway”)
and another as a solo artist (“In Your Eyes”).
He is clearly among those who, as she says, move her, make
her feel, bring her closer to herself.
